Your skin is a reflection of what’s going on inside your body. That’s why we have a unique diet, each for different skin types for you!

We’ve often heard of the phrase ‘beauty is skin deep’. Well, let’s just say it’s true. Your skin is a reflection of your beauty, and what’s on the inside definitely shows up on the outside. Of course, using cosmetics is a way to accentuate your features, but it’s your diet that plays a key role in enhancing your appearance.

The health of your skin is linked to the hormone fluctuations happening in your body, and that’s of course, related to your diet. It is essential to include some foods and eliminate others to improve your skin. 

The foods you are going to consume are heavily dependent on your skin type, just the way products are. Before we move to the diet, let’s speak about the right way to figure out your skin type. 

How can you diagnose your skin type?

Do not use any products after cleansing your skin, and see how it looks after a few hours. There are mainly four types of skin: 

  • Dry
  • Normal
  • Oily 
  • Combination 

There could be other issues within these skin types that include acne, flaking, or even dullness. In case your face looks shiny, you have oily skin; if it’s flaky or irritated, you have dry skin; and oily in some areas and dry in others, it’s combination skin. 

What should you have for dry skin?

To start off with, have at least two litres of water every day, and get your fill through water-based fruits like watermelons. 

You must also include foods that are rich in fatty acids: 

Try to have caffeine and alcohol in moderation. 

Dry skin could also be a consequence of deficiencies in vitamins A and C, so increase your consumption of: 

  • Spinach
  • Broccoli
  • Sweet potato

What should you have for oily skin?

You might want to remove oil from your diet, because you have oily skin? Well, don’t! But make sure you go for anti-inflammatory oils like: 

  • Avocado
  • Olive oil
  • Fish oil 
  • Flaxseed oil

Try and cut down on your quantity of oily and processed foods like fries and sugar-based items. Make healthier swaps like having whole wheat instead of refined carbs, and having poultry instead of red meats. 

What should you have for combination skin?

Since combination skin is a mix of dry and oily skin, it is a good idea to combine the diets for both. It doesn’t mean you need to boycott carbs, but pay attention to the kind of grains you are consuming.

What about acne-prone skin?

Most of us believe that acne is an issue that has a place in our teenage years, but that’s not true. Adult acne is a struggle, and in fact, it is defined as acne that appears for the first time in individuals when they’re adults, by The American Academy of Dermatology Association.

It is important for those having this skin type to cut down on dairy, as well as sugary and fatty foods that are believed to cause inflammation. Consuming probiotics is also a good idea, but do consult your doctor for advice.
