Ginger Games, a new game development company, has formally launched for business with the goal of addressing two of the main issues facing the mobile gaming market: retention and monetization. A seasoned group with more than 50 years of combined expertise in gaming and media entertainment runs the business, which is a member of the KRAFTON India Gaming Incubator. Along with talent from firms like Yahoo, Zynga, and SuperGaming, this also includes co-founders Sumit Batheja and Shrey Mishra.

The group has a proven track record, having led more over $100 million in total media monetization mandates and scaled gaming communities to over 11.5 million players. Anurag Khurana, CEO of Penta Esports and a former CEO of Riot Games India and Jio Games, and Fernanda Romano, a former CMO at King and Supercell, serve as strategic consultants to the studio.

What is the KRAFTON India Gaming Incubator?

KRAFTON, the company behind BGMI, created the KRAFTON India Gaming Incubator (KIGI) initiative to assist Indian game developers in realizing their concepts. The incubator, which was established in 2023, aims to establish a sophisticated gaming ecosystem where new innovations can be produced and appreciated by a large audience. The initiative helps studios like Ginger Games prove their design philosophy and produce sustainable intellectual property (IP) by offering mentorship, technical tools, and global insights. In addition, the incubator provides mentorship programs that range from six months to a year and financial subsidies of up to $150,000.

Ginger Games’ Vision for mobile gaming

After years of developing successful B2B gaming and media-tech products, the founders of Ginger Games saw a “clear whitespace” in the market, according to co-founder Sumit Batheja. Although mobile gaming is growing, he pointed out that the majority of new games rely on “shallow mechanics and copycat formulas” and struggle with long-term user engagement and revenue. Ginger Games wants to alter this by producing enduring intellectual property.

“Monkey Mayhem,” the studio’s debut game, is presently in the beta stage, with early playable builds undergoing testing. The goal of Ginger Games is to establish a new benchmark for “sticky, scalable, and built to last” hybrid-casual games. The roguelite genre, which is still largely unexplored in the Indian market, is the strategic focus of their attention. In order to promote long-term engagement and revenue models that are advantageous to both players and the studio, the company is also creating a design and operations engine tailored to a particular genre.

Ginger Games’ acceptance in the program was described as “a strong validation of our commitment to onboarding studios of exceptional quality” by Anuj Sahani, Head of the KRAFTON India Incubator Program, who applauded the company’s vision and strategy for addressing some of the most difficult problems facing the industry.
